Photography FAQ

  • DOF means depth of field. It controls how much of the image is in focus. A shallow depth of field keeps your subject sharp while softening the background for a more cinematic look.

  • For many of those shots, I use a wide aperture like f/1.8 or f/2.8 and focus tightly on the foreground subject. When shooting handheld, I usually keep shutter speed at 1/60 or faster depending on the light.

  • For street-style long exposures, I typically use a narrower aperture like f/7.1 or higher and a shutter speed around 0.3 to 0.5 seconds. Timing matters. I wait for the bus, train, or traffic to fill the frame so the lights stretch through the shot.
